Beginner's Yoga Class Bromley

Weekly Hatha foundations class: An introduction to the practice of yoga

This beginner’s yoga class offers a clear and welcoming introduction to yoga for those who want to understand the foundations of the practice. It is suitable for complete beginners, as well as those returning after time away who would like to re-establish their practice.

Yoga is more than a series of movements. In this weekly class, you will explore how breath, posture, movement, and attention work together, and how these elements form the basis of standard yoga classes. The emphasis is on learning with care, clarity, and continuity.

What you’ll learn

This beginners yoga class takes a clear and progressive approach. You won’t just practice postures – you’ll learn the principles behind them and build competence week by week.

Over the weeks, you will:

  • Learn foundational yogic breathing (pranayama) techniques
  • Understand and practise core Hatha postures with alignment cues
  • Explore slow flow transitions between poses for stability and ease
  • Develop body awareness, balance, strength and flexibility
  • Practise guided relaxation methods that cultivation ease

Each class is structured to build on the last so you steadily improve your physical awareness, coordination and understanding of the yoga vocabulary.

Alongside learning the physical foundations, the classes also introduce the broader intention behind yoga practice.

Yoga is a practice of awareness and paying attention. Through simple, repeated movements and attention to the breath, we begin to understand how effort and ease coexist, and how awareness can shape the way we move and respond. The classes treat yoga as a disciplined, embodied practice; one that supports clarity, steadiness, and presence both on and off the mat.

Preparing You for Standard Yoga Classes

These beginner’s yoga classes are designed to prepare you for regular yoga classes by establishing familiarity with the fundamentals.

Many general classes assume prior knowledge of posture names, breathing patterns, and common instructions. These classes take the time to explore those elements so that, when you attend standard classes, you are not trying to keep up but can instead participate with understanding.

After attending regularly, you will have:

  • Experience with commonly taught yoga postures
  • Confidence following verbal cues and demonstrations
  • An understanding of how to adapt postures to your body
  • A sense of how classes are typically structured

This grounding allows yoga to become a practice you can return to, rather than something that feels unfamiliar or confusing.

Who This Class Is Intended For

These weekly classes are suitable for those who:

  • Want a thoughtful and structured introduction to yoga
  • Prefer learning in a small group with clear guidance
  • Are interested in the deeper foundations of yoga, not just movement
  • Wish to develop a steady, sustainable practice

No previous yoga experience is required. What matters most is an openness to learning and exploring the practice gradually.

Hatha Yoga with Slow Flow

The teaching approach is based in Hatha yoga, with elements of gentle slow flow. This allows time to explore postures individually while also experiencing how breath and movement connect.

Classes balance stillness and movement, effort and ease, offering a practical framework that supports both physical understanding and quieter awareness. This style provides a stable foundation for many forms of yoga you may encounter later.
